my brother received a text message from his friend who attended the eraserheads reunion concert tonight. after 15 songs, ely buendia, the band's lead vocalist, broke down in tears, sat down on the stage and then the lights went off. somebody announced to wait for the 2nd set but after a few minutes, the 3 other members, buddy, markus and raymund together with ely's sibling went back up the stage. ely's sibling broke the news that the eheads frontman was rushed to makati med hospital. shocked raimund and buddy also gave a message to the fans. not really sure what it is though. the concert was cut short because of the untimely and shocking incident.

another guy friend of my brother who coincidentally is in makati med right now texted saying ely buendia will undergo triple bypass operation. a lot of media were outside to gather news about ely's condition.

apart from what's been in the news regarding the sponsorship of m_ _ _ _ _ _ _ cigarettes of the event, my brother's friend said that it doesn't push through. tickets were sold outside the venue in the fort, taguig for 800 pesos. the concert has no sponsor. that means, the concert is one honest event given by eraserheads to all their fans. no monkey business.

Eraserheads concert cut short (UPDATE)

Singer-songwriter and Eraserheads frontman Ely Buendia was rushed to the Makati Medical Center Saturday night around 10 pm, in the middle of the long-awaited Eraserheads reunion concert.

Unconfirmed reports say Buendia suffered a heart attack and is being treated in the emergency room.

The concert held at the Bonifacio Global City open field was cut short as a result.

Buendia's sister announced at the concert that the Eraserheads' frontman "is in a lot of physical and emotional stress lately."

On August 28, Buendia's mother passed away due to cardiac arrest. The Eraserheads vocalist decided to push through with the concert anyway.

Buendia himself had a previous heart attack in January 2007. The Eraserheads reunion concert became controversial after its first sponsor, cigarette-maker Philip Morris, was accused of violating Philippine laws prohibiting tobacco companies from sponsoring concerts and other promotional events.

The Eraserheads was the most successful Filipino band of the 1990s. They broke up in 2002.

ginger conejero reported that ely buendia suffered from chest pains and is now in stable condition. raimund relays that ely is the one who asked the band for 5 minutes time-out so he could rest. it was buddy who saw that there were already ambulance and paramedics outside which were ready to rush buendia to the hospital. it was ely's sister who broke the news to the fans, that due to emotional stress, his brother had to be hospitalized and the concert has to be cut short. she asked the fans for apologies.

thank god. he's fine.

raymund marasigan told MYX News days before the concert that it will push through with a new promoter, radiohead media solutions and sony bmg philippines.

gma news, on the other hand, as reported by rawnna crisostomo, the event was also sponsored by mtv philippines.

this explains why the concert was no longer free. tickets were sold from php 130-800 also at a different venue, bonifacio global city open field, that is.
